Blumenthal isn’t overemphasizing the severity of the bug. Evaluations are a dining establishment’s bread and butter, and removing them can substantially affect income.
There are various threads in the Google Company Profile assist forums begun by business owners who lost most or all of their evaluations.
In each thread, the business owners share one thing in common. After applying Google’s recommended edits to their business profile, they all lost evaluations.
Blumenthal composes in a blog post that he found Google was changing the client recognition (CID) number when organizations used suggested edits:
“With some digging, I discovered that in each case Google had altered the CID, the identifier Google utilizes to connect all pertinent information to an organization, consisting of evaluations. Generally the CID only alters when 2 listings merge or Google has actually hard-suspended a listing for guidelines offenses and after that restored it.”
Client reviews are connected with a specific CID number, which suggests changing the CID removes the reviews.
That need to never happen, specifically not when using Google’s suggested edits.
A repair is on the method, and hopefully, it’s as easy as going back the affected Google Organization Profiles to their initial CID numbers.
We’ll upgrade this post if Google shares extra information.
